Baz Bhatia QC, instructed by Appleby Shaw solicitors, appeared for the defence. The defendant embarked on a plot to destroy a fellow lawyer's life, after discovering he was married, and lied about a rape and arranged to be stabbed in order to set up her married lover.

Cohen Barley, defended by Mr Varley and prosecuted by Mr Short, stabbed two men through a car window, proceeded to flee the scene and actively attempted to evade police by moving between addresses and staying in hotels under different names.
