Bhatia QC, instructed by Appleby Shaw solicitors, was successful before the Court of Appeal Criminal Division in having a life sentence reduced on appeal.

The defendant had been sentenced to a discretionary life sentence having embarked on a plot to destroy a fellow lawyer’s life after discovering he was married. The defendant lied about a rape and arranged to be stabbed in order to set up her married lover. Initially sentenced to life imprisonment this was reduced to a 10 year custodial sentence.
