We are seeking a bright, ambitious junior clerk to join our busy clerking team.

A Barrister's Clerk

The clerks’ room is the operational hub within a set of chambers, responsible for managing the practice and business activities of its members and is crucial to the smooth running and success of chambers.

You will need strong interpersonal skills and a real ‘can-do’ attitude. You will be resilient, capable and possess the fundamental practice management skills required for this rewarding career path.

The Role

Principle duties include*:

General administrative work.

Daily Court listings for hearings in the Crown and Magistrates Courts

Updating barrister diaries and case data within the LEX system

Liaising with solicitors and CPS about cases

Efficient management and distribution of incoming communications, and papers/instructions

Document management: ensure that documents delivered to Chambers or received by email or post are dealt with promptly, appropriately, and efficiently.

*The list of duties is not exhaustive - chambers expect all clerks to deal with any other day to day tasks as reasonably requested.

Person specification:

GCSEs in English and Maths, grades C or above or equivalent

Articulate in both verbal and written communications.

Demonstrate initiative and be a good team player.

The ability to perform accurately under pressure, in a busy and demanding environment.

Excellent IT skills

Be flexible; have a positive attitude and possess the ability to learn quickly and to adapt to new processes.

Well presented with a high standard of personal appearance
